Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon classic yellow mustard
  • 1 can 10.5 oz condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar split
  • 2 cloves garlic finely minced
  • 1 small yellow onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 package 20–22 oz frozen French fries (shoestring or crinkle-cut recommended)
  • Optional garnishes: diced dill pickles shredded iceberg lettuce, chopped fresh tomatoes, ketchup or mustard drizzle

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet set over medium heat, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion until fully cooked and the onion has softened. Discard any rendered fat from the pan.
  • Stir in the minced garlic, salt, black pepper, ketchup, and mustard. Mix until all ingredients are thoroughly combined and fragrant.
  • Add the cheddar cheese soup and half of the shredded cheddar to the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and well incorporated.
  • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spoon the beef and cheese mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
  • Evenly distribute the shredded mozzarella over the beef layer.
  • Arrange the frozen French fries in a single, even layer on top of the cheese.
  • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 30–35 minutes, or until the fries turn golden brown and crisp.
  • Remove from the oven and scatter the remaining cheddar cheese over the fries. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, just until the cheese melts.
  • Allow the bake to cool for a few minutes before serving. Add your desired garnishes just before plating.

Notes

Customize the toppings to your preference for a fully loaded effect—classic burger fixings like lettuce, tomato, and pickles work especially well.
