Easy Crostini Recipe

A simple guide to preparing perfectly golden and crisp crostini, ideal for appetizers or a light meal accompaniment. This recipe allows you to bake them in the oven or grill them, making them versatile for any gathering. Depending on the size of your baguette, this recipe yields between 16 to 24 slices.

Ingredients

  • 1 crusty baguette French bread
  • Flaky sea salt or fine salt to taste
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil as required

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F or prepare a gas grill. If you prefer easy cleanup, line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. If your baking sheet is on the smaller side, you may need to bake in two batches.
  • Slice the baguette diagonally into pieces approximately ½-inch thick. You should be able to fit around 20 to 24 slices on a large baking sheet; any extra bread can be saved for another use. Lightly brush both sides of each slice with extra-virgin olive oil, which should require around 2 to 3 tablespoons.
  • Arrange the slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet and place them on the middle oven rack. Bake for 6 to 9 minutes, or until the crostini are crisp and a lovely golden color on the top. Lightly sprinkle with salt immediately after removing from the oven.
  • Transfer the baked crostini to a serving platter and serve as desired, or use them as a base for your favorite toppings.

Notes

Grilling Method: To grill, brush the baguette slices with olive oil and place directly on the grill grates using tongs. Cover and toast for about 3 minutes. Once the underside has golden grill marks, flip carefully with tongs and toast the other side. Remove and serve as desired.
Alternate Baking Temperatures and Times: If baking at a lower temperature to accommodate other dishes, adjust the time accordingly. At 350°F, bake for 10 to 12 minutes. At 400°F, bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
